The System Will Give You Posture - But You've Got To Use It
In yesterday's post we talked about ways to get the right posture for your network marketing business. Today we'll continue that discussion by focusing on an important component in your success that your company/organization should offer: A System. If they don't have one, I'm going to give you some simple suggestions for building one of your own. It will absolutely accelerate your success. I recently heard of an awesome acronym for the word system: Save Yourself Stress Time Energy and Money. How true that is!
Now there's been some recent negative press online about certain company's abuse of the system saying that the people who started them made their most money from the sale of materials used to comprise the system: books, tapes, meetings and major functions, also known as "tools". You've got to be really careful about that. I'm not saying it's wrong to to make money from the sale of your tools - I don't think it is. When I think it's wrong is when your upline only has a system so they can make profits from it. What you want to find is a company/organization that cares about their people and that's why they've got the tools.
The right attitude would be that they know that personal development is important and that if you build the person, the person will build the business. The best companies don't force them on you, they strongly recommend them as an acceleration tool. And here's the most interesting part - as you use the system and it's tools, you're whole life will get better. Not just your business but your home life as well.
That happened to me. I was really into "plugging in" to the system and my life started changing. My home life got better, my relationship with my wife got better and my relationship with my kids got better. On top of that I started getting promotions at work. So I was growing as a person, husband, father and as a leader all because I decided to plug into the system. I credit my discipline to that system as why I'm who I am today. That's powerful! That's the beauty of a good system.
So how long do you have to plug into the system? How about……forever. I'm serious about that. If it's a good one, you'll want to be plugged into it forever. One of my mentors, Jim Rohn says this, "Work harder on yourself than you do on your job." I love that.
What if you're company or organization doesn't offer a system? Here's a way you can start your own personal development system. It's really quite simple:
- Start listening to people like Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, Jack Canfield, Vic Johnson, Charlie "Tremendous" Jones, Chris Widener, Brian Tracy, Denis Waitley and Shad Helmstetter. You can get their materials on Amazon, Nightingale Conant or just Google them and go directly to their websites. The idea here is to get into the habit of listening to one CD or tape every single day. That will begin to shift your mindset towards success. Remember the old saying, "You become like the people you associate with"? That is the concept behind this step.
- Next, start reading 15 minutes a day minimum from people like the one's I listed above. Most of them are authors as well. In fact, that's how most of them started out. Reading develops faculties that no other thing you can do develops. Charlie "Tremendous" Jones says you will be the same in 5 years from now except for the books you read and the people you associate with. You want to read and listen to positive material on a daily basis. If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, I've written a blog specifically on reading. Check it out.
- The third part of your system should consist of live training seminars. You should go to every function that your upline puts on provided it's close to you. If you haven't started making money in your business and your finances are tight, avoid the big, far away seminars for now. As you make money they should be mandatory. If your upline tells you to sell your TV so you can go to the major functions, don't do it unless you really think you're committed. You can get plenty of motivation from the books, DVDs and local meetings and seminars. As you grow and your business grows you can add the big functions. If you're upline makes you feel like crap for not going, you might be involved in the wrong company/organization.
- Finally, on my DVD Secrets of Sales Power I talk about the fact that by the time you're 40 years old, you've heard over 200,000 negative statements from people who are close to you. Now it's time to reverse that. I show you how on that DVD. In fact, that DVD is a great place to start if you've never been involved with personal development before.
If you follow these things I'm telling you, your posture will definitely increase. Remember, it's an attitude about how you go about building it. I know you can do it and I definitely believe in you!
